Talking about colour and gender in Psychology Today.
Domicele Jonauskaite and Christine Mohr write in Psychology Today about their research on colour preferences and the associations of colour with gender.
At gender reveal parties blue (for boy) or pink (for girl) confetti would blow out of the cake or a baloon. Entering a children’s clothing store we immediately face colours dividing the girls’ and boys’ sections, and even adults’ clothes often differ in terms of their colour palette - with pink and purple being thought of as girly colours, and darker colours of navy blue, mustard or khaki being seen as more approperiate for men.
In their article, Domicele and Christine talk about the colour-gender associations in the scope of their research article from 2019. If you are interested to know what they have to say about this phenomenon, you can read the Psychology Today article or the entire publication.
